It is said that when you find your passion, work no longer feels like work and the satisfaction is so much greater than money, and so it goes with Vince Zangaro and his work to help families who are experiencing the pain of a family member suffering with Alzheimer’s or Dementia.

Artist Off The Vine: Peter Searcy And Friends Make Good Night Noises
August 23rd

August 17, 2018 by No Comments

Now that we have secured our advance purchase tickets, we are going to let you in on this: Peter Searcy is playing a show at Smith’s Olde Bar on August 23rd.

This is not the first time we will see Peter play. We have seen him play a packed house at the old Roxy and in front of 20,000 people at Music Midtown. So getting to hear him perform in the intimacy of Smith’s Atlanta Room feels like a U2 pop-up show at a Dublin pub.

Darwin’s Burgers and Blues Continues to Evolve

August 10, 2018 by No Comments

When you meet Lindsay Wine, you just feel it: her energy, her passion and her love of what she does – and what she does is pretty special. She, along with her boyfriend, Jonathan Akin, own one of the most storied music venues in Atlanta, Darwin’s Burgers and Blues in Sandy Springs.

You may have heard of Darwin’s and know a bit about its ups and downs, but Lindsay and Akin are writing a new chapter in Darwin’s story.

Industry Off The Vine: A Rippin’ Production Grows Its Rock & Roll Karma Factory

August 1, 2018 by No Comments

There are many hours of work required just to make even one hour of stage performance happen. Amos Rifkin knows first-hand the good, bad, and the ugly of being a road warrior gigging band musician and is using that knowledge to make the experience better through his company A Rippin’ Production (yes, the company name is a play on his own name).

Introducing “Off The Vine”

August 1, 2018 by No Comments

Hi everybody. We are so thrilled with the interest and support we have received since launching Atlanta Music Grapevine just about 2 months ago. People are thanking us for what we are doing, recommending others to interview, and suggesting new features they would like to see us develop.

There is so much talent and so many interesting stories out there. We already have a long wish-list of interviews. Many are already scheduled. Many are being scheduled. We enjoy bringing you the in-depth stories like those we have published so far. However, sometimes we run into people who have a shorter story to tell. It might be a timely event, a new artist or businesses just getting started or a new music venue or open mic opportunity. We want to make sure we get these out to you, too.

So, we are excited to announce the launch of a new, additional format – Off The Vine. These stories will be shorter than our typical Spotlight stories, but will provide you additional insights into the latest happenings around the Atlanta music scene. We will continue to provide Spotlight stories once a week, but this more compact format will allow us to provide greater volume and variety of content for you. Let us know what you think.

We love what’s going on in Atlanta music and look forward to continuing to share the stories of our cool town.

Thank you for all of your support. Happy reading!

Right before lunch I get in the car and turn on WABE. I hear a familiar voice and music behind it. I cannot believe what I am hearing out of the speakers and it catches me off guard a minute. “I have that record!” It is none other than Kyle Gordon of our favorite MammaBear in an interview on City Lights. Way to go Lois!
It is already time to start working for the weekend! The annual Summer Shade Festival is a wonderful kickoff to more pleasant weather outdoor entertainment. Among all the music and art are some of our favorite people including Lynx Deluxe Saturday at 3:20PM – they always deliver on stage with their batch of energetic tunes. Also check out Rare Birds Sunday at 4:00PM and James Hall & The Steady Wicked at 7:45PM. See the festival website for a full schedule!
Look at this sweet line up playing right now! It’s free!
This week marks the release of ‘Free Radical’, the fourth full-length studio album from MammaBear, the music project led by Kyle Gordon, who wrote and sings lead on all seven of the tunes, in addition to contributing drums and percussion, guitars, and bass. ‘Free Radical’ was originally recorded at Gordon’s home on an 8-track recorder during the pandemic and later finished in the studio, supported by renown local allies Benjamin J. Davidow (Gas Hound, Phantom Electric, The Buzzards of Fuzz), Josh Longino (Disapyramids, Gringo Star), and Tony W. Belser (Bloodplums), whose talents give this record a real band vibe.
There is so much good music happening all around Atlanta this holiday weekend. One show to which you should treat yourself is on Saturday September 4 as Smith’s Old Bar hosts The Ladies Of…
For a few years now we have enjoyed recordings by MammaBear, full of ear-grabbing buzzy licks and an easy, nonchalant hookiness and cool vibe.
